Updates for Manufacturers

ENERGY STAR Commercial Refrigerators and Freezers V4.0 Specification - Draft 2 Released

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the ENERGY STAR Commercial Refrigerators and Freezers Draft 2 Version 4.0 Specification for stakeholder review. The cover memo and draft specification are now available.

EPA re-examined the specification and made modest adjustments to the proposed energy performance levels to enable a broader selection of products. EPA continues to see strong value in advancing this product category.

ENERGY STAR Commercial Coffee Brewers V1.0 Specification - Final Draft Released

EPA is pleased to share the Final Draft Version 1.0 ENERGY STAR Commercial Coffee Brewers specification. EPA would like to thank the many stakeholders who contributed feedback and informed this product specification process.

ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year (POY) Award Winners

Congratulations to the 2016 ENERGY STAR Award Winners!

The 2016 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Awards Ceremony was held on April 18, 2016 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. This year’s ceremony featured a procession of ENERGY STARs, as well as opening remarks from EPA’s Administrator Gina McCarthy.

EPA would like to congratulate the three CFS manufacturer partners that were honored at this year's ceremony:

Partner of the Year for Sustained Excellence: Manitowoc

Manitowoc Foodservice received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence recognition for its support of the ENERGY STAR specification development process, leadership in marketing ENERGY STAR certified products, and stand-out efforts to educate employees and end users on the benefits of ENERGY STAR certified products. Partner of the Year for Sustained Excellence: ITW

ITW received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence recognition for its continued innovation in designing efficient equipment and its support of the specification development process. ITW’s leadership in energy efficiency is evidenced by the broad suite of energy efficient equipment and its continued participation in the ENERGY STAR specification and test method development process. Partner of the Year for Sustained Excellence: Hoshizaki

Hoshizaki received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence recognition for continuing to develop products that excel in energy efficiency, introducing comprehensive recycling programs, and successfully promoting ENERGY STAR to its customers and dealers. National Restaurant Association (NRA) Show 2016

EPA’s ENERGY STAR Commercial Food Service Program Manager, Kirsten Hesla, as well as other members of the ENERGY STAR Team attended the 2016 National Restaurant Association (NRA) Show from May 21-24 in Chicago, IL. There were over 2,000 exhibitors, including numerous CFS manufacturer and distributor partners. Kirsten and team members visited partner booths and met with stakeholders to discuss ENERGY STAR marketing and product development initiatives.

The ENERGY STAR Commercial Food Service Team also hosted a stakeholder meeting at the NRA Show on May 23. The meeting covered several product categories including: commercial ovens, commercial fryers, commercial refrigeration, commercial dishwashers and commercial ice machines.

EPA is developing a Dealer & Distributor Toolkit to provide customized, market-based strategies for selling and promoting ENERGY STAR CFS equipment. Stay tuned!

2016 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award (ETA)

The Emerging Technology Award (ETA) is an annual designation recognizing innovative technologies that meet rigorous performance criteria and have the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For 2016, winning technologies demonstrate the use of a climate-friendly refrigerants from EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program and demonstrate efficiency gain of 5% or greater, isolated to the refrigerant.

Congratulations to True Manufacturing Group, the first recipient of the 2016 Emerging Technology Award for Innovative Refrigerant Systems! True earned this designation for their use of low-GWP refrigerant systems in 42 refrigerator/freezer models.
