Battery Charging Systems Specification Version 2.0
The ENERGY STAR specification for battery charging systems is currently under revision. Materials related to this revision process are provided below. Partners and other interested parties with questions or concerns regarding these materials or the revision process can contact Katharine Kaplan, EPA, at Kaplan.Katharine@epa.gov. This Web page will be updated periodically as new information is received.
The EPA decided to sunset the ENERGY STAR Battery Charging Specification effective on December 31, 2014. For more information on this decision and the timeline please see the memo.
Stakeholders are invited to comment on this proposal to sunset the ENERGY STAR BCS product program. Any feedback or data you wish to share with EPA may be submitted via email to batterychargers@energystar.gov , no later than December 13, 2013.
Following manufacturer feedback regarding the treatment of "a la carte" chargers in the Version 1.1 program requirements, EPA has made several clarifications to the test method and eligibility criteria to ensure clarity and proper testing.
BCS stakeholders submitted the following comments on the Draft 1 Specification to EPA. As agreed previously, EPA is delaying action on the specification until the release of the DOE test procedure final rule and energy conservation standards proposed rule for BCS, at which point it will consider the comments and incorporate its responses into the Draft 2 Specification.
EPA hosted a webinar to present and solicit stakeholder comment on the previously released Draft 1 Version 2.0 specification for Battery Charging Systems (BCSs). During the webinar, several stakeholders expressed concern regarding the proposed timeline for development of the ENERGY STAR BCSs specification and requested that EPA delay its process until DOE completed portions of its standard development work.
EPA proposes to delay development of portions of the specification that would be impacted by the DOE test procedure and standard for consumer BCSs. Please note, however, that specification development relating to definitions, scope, nonactive power allowance, additional environmental benefits, and industrial BCSs will continue as scheduled, with comments due by January 15, 2011.
EPA released for stakeholder comment the Draft 1 Version 2.0 specification for Battery Charging Systems (BCSs). The final date for provision of comments on the draft specification will be January 15, 2010. EPA would also like to notify stakeholders that it will be hosting a Webinar to discuss the draft specification on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, from 11 am to 2 pm, Eastern Time. Please RSVP to batterychargers@energystar.gov by Friday, December 10, to receive Webinar information.
EPA sent a letter to stakeholders to update them on recent progress in the specification development process for Battery Charging Systems and provide a timeline of next steps.
