Today is ENERGY STAR Day. It is also the culmination of the first-ever ENERGY STAR Change the World Tour. The tour brings together numerous public and private sector organizations and companies that have partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program to make a difference in people’s lives through community service projects that feature energy efficiency.
The tour wraps up in Phoenix, Arizona with an extensive energy-efficiency upgrade by Arizona Public Service (APS) at U.S. Vets, a 135-unit non-profit housing facility for homeless veterans. Other events include community service projects ranging from comprehensive energy makeovers for Boys & Girls Clubs of America and low-income housing to educational activities that help camps become greener and families save energy, water and money and improve overall quality of life. Participating sponsors include APS, Consumers Energy, National Grid, Baltimore Gas & Electric, Pacific Gas & Electric, Xcel Energy, and Southern California Edison. Events were also supported by generous contributions from Cree, EarthTronics, Electrolux, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sears, and Whirlpool, among others.
“Through this Tour, our ENERGY STAR program and partners are making a difference in local communities through energy efficiency service projects that will save money and energy, while cutting harmful pollution and combating climate change,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy.
The collective impacts of the Tour’s numerous community projects demonstrate the power of positive energy. Based on estimates from partners, their combined activities will save communities nearly $9 million on future energy bills alone, not to mention the quality of life benefits as well as the benefits of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
ENERGY STAR Day celebrates the collective accomplishments of the Tour and encourages others to share their own stories of the Power of Positive Energy leading up to the final event and during the Twitter Party on October 29, 2 pm EST. The Twitter Party will feature video accounts of each event and other #ESPositiveEnergy stories shared by Tour participants and others.

ENERGY STAR is the simple choice for energy efficiency. For more than 20 years, people in America have looked to EPA’s ENERGY STAR program for guidance on how to save energy, save money, and protect the environment. Behind each blue label is a product, building, or home that is independently certified to use less energy and cause fewer of the emissions that contribute to climate change. Today, ENERGY STAR is the most widely recognized symbol for energy efficiency in the world, helping families and businesses save $300 billion on utility bills, while reducing carbon pollution by two billion metric tons since 1992. Join the millions who are already making a difference at energystar.gov.
