Digital Realty Trust is a data center owner and operator. Digital Realty continued to develop and expand on its robust energy management program, achieving ENERGY STAR® certification for 31 properties and promoting its success with ENERGY STAR to internal and external audiences. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Improving its portfolio average ENERGY STAR score by nearly 9% since 2022.
  • Establishing a Global Energy Management Working Group comprised of members of several of its business units and developing a policy for consistent measurement, calculation, and reporting of power usage effectiveness at its data centers globally at both facility and suite levels.
  • Launching an artificial intelligence (AI) platform at several of its data centers to optimize data center operations beyond typical engineer capacity. This platform combines building management system data with AI models to find and solve inefficiencies within data centers and save energy. The program saw energy savings of 11.3 GWh from January 2022 through June 2023.
  • Promoting ENERGY STAR to its investors and tenants through its environmental, social, and governance report, quarterly business meetings, sustainability training sessions, customer presentations, and social media.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
