Corning Incorporated logo

Corning Incorporated is a manufacturer of specialty glass, ceramics, and advanced optical products. The company advanced energy management by leveraging ENERGY STAR® tools and resources across domestic and global operations and reinforced identification of energy projects by all employees. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Achieving a 1.6% energy productivity gain across the company since 2018.
  • Conducting a month-long campaign to promote ENERGY STAR tools, including the ENERGY STAR Home Energy Yardstick, to employees through training, educational webinars, and a fair.
  • Making significant strides in improving the efficiency of its plants through the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry. A total of 56 sites are actively pursuing the Challenge goal of reducing energy intensity by 10%.
  • Completing detailed studies of natural gas usage in ceramic kilns. One site reduced annual gas consumption by 12 million kWh. Sharing best practices among Corning sites enabled three additional kilns to apply the knowledge and save 28 million kWh.
  • Conducting three ENERGY STAR Treasure Hunts at sites in New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Japan to identify dozens of energy saving upgrades. In North Carolina, the identified opportunities have the potential to save 2.5 million kWh or more than 1,000 metric tons of CO2e.
  • Collaborating with other ENERGY STAR partners to share best practices on supply chain engagement, and presenting Corning’s electrification transition efforts from natural gas that are advancing the company’s progress toward decarbonization.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
