The company earned ENERGY STAR® certification for top energy performance at 4 KII nitrogenous fertilizer plants, one oil refinery, and 2 pulp and paper mills. Key 2022 accomplishments include:

  •  Achieving a 1% energy intensity improvement across KII businesses.
  •  Meeting the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry at two manufacturing sites.
  •  Completing projects that improved fuel utilization and thermal efficiency in fertilizer production, used waste oxygen furnace enrichment for glass, installed 45 MW of supplemental solar power in refining, and increased reliability and efficiency of boilers, turbines, evaporators, and compressors in pulp and paper production. Projects have reduced KII greenhouse gas emissions by 19% since 2014.
  •  Mentoring more than 13 ENERGY STAR industrial partners on energy management strategies in the food, oil refining, glass, chemicals, aerospace, spirits, and concrete industries.
