Consumers Energy is a natural gas and electric utility in Michigan. Consumers Energy supports its commercial customers with ENERGY STAR® tools and services, including Portfolio Manager® benchmarking and ENERGY STAR building certification. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Providing 151 business customers participating in Building Performance with ENERGY STAR with building energy efficiency assessments that resulted in 57 projects, saving more than $3 million in electricity and $350,000 in gas costs.
  • Offering financial assistance through the Michigan Retired Engineer Technical Assistance Program for customers pursuing ENERGY STAR certification, which resulted in 614 buildings benchmarked using Portfolio Manager and 108 buildings earning ENERGY STAR certification.
  • Focusing efforts on hard-to-reach, low-income, and rural audiences through retail partnerships and instant rebates on ENERGY STAR certified products, including air purifiers, room air conditioners, and bathroom exhaust fans, as well as launching validated instant rebates on ENERGY STAR certified washers, dryers, heat pump dryers, refrigerators, chest freezers, and smart thermostats.
  • Providing incentives for the construction of more than 470 ENERGY STAR certified homes and partnering with training organizations to launch an ENERGY STAR Scholarship Pilot Program aimed at growing a network of highly skilled trades.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
