CalPortland Company logo

CalPortland Company, a producer of cement, concrete, aggregates, and asphalt pavement, supported the ENERGY STAR® industrial partnership by sharing its technical expertise with the asphalt pavement and cement industries. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Achieving ENERGY STAR certification at two cement plants: the Rillito cement plant for the 11th year and the recently acquired Redding cement plant.
  • Maintaining a continuous pipeline of energy projects at the company’s four cement plants that will significantly reduce energy consumption. A sample of projects include raw mill feeder upgrades, a new kiln camera and process gas analyzer, a new conveyance system, improved electrical infrastructure, automation logic, optimization of fuel handling systems, a new pneumatic pulsing baghouse, variable frequency drives on fans, and a diesel stacker system replaced by an electric version. Projects in development include replacement of a primary crusher and a kiln burner system.
  • Communicating ENERGY STAR broadly through internal activities to preserve the focus on the company’s energy culture, community events, local award organizations, and outreach to key stakeholders.
  • Promoting ENERGY STAR across multiple industries by mentoring partners, actively participating in industry meetings, and supporting the development of the asphalt pavement industry Energy Guide.
  • Advancing decarbonization goals by manufacturing and promoting lower carbon products for the construction market and conducting research into additional low-carbon building materials, renewable fuels, and alternative raw materials.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
