BXP logo

BXP is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust. BXP has demonstrated ongoing dedication to corporate sustainability, integrating ENERGY STAR® into all aspects of its robust energy management program and achieving significant milestones in its ambitious decarbonization strategy. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Achieving ENERGY STAR certification for 36 properties.
  • Requiring all properties to benchmark energy, water, and waste in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager® and to target a minimum ENERGY STAR score of 75.
  • Completing construction of its first net zero repositioning of an existing building. This major renovation project included high-performance thermal envelope insulation, electrification of the HVAC system using electric variable refrigerant flow heat pumps, Superblock heat recovery, upgraded lighting, and the addition of 1.3 MWh of on-site solar generation.
  • Executing a virtual power purchase agreement with Enel to enable it to source green power for its actively managed buildings to achieve net zero operations. The solar project will generate around 499 GWh of clean electricity each year.
  • Reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 39%, in line with the Science Based Targets initiative, and meeting its Scope 3 GHG emissions reduction goal, which required a 14% reduction in embodied carbon emissions.
  • Giving ENERGY STAR-related presentations to more than 500+ internal and external stakeholders.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
