Room Air Conditioners Specification Version 2.0

ENERGY STAR Room Air Conditioner Criteria Change 2005

The Department of Energy finalized the expansion of the ENERGY STAR criteria for Room Air Conditioners (RAC) to include RAC models with reverse cycle (i.e., heat pump models). This criteria expansion meets the Department of Energy’s (DOE) objectives of increasing energy savings and offering a better selection of high-performance RACs.

ENERGY STAR Room Air Conditioner Criteria Change 2003

The Department of Energy presented a proposal to expand the ENERGY STAR Room Air Conditioner qualifying criteria to include through-the-wall (TTW) RACs, without heating. The proposal met the Department’s objectives to increase energy savings, exceed code requirements, and offer a consumer-friendly approach to selecting high-performance RACs.
