Residential Light Fixtures Final Specification Eligibility Criteria — Version 4.0
EPA has finalized the ENERGY STAR Version 4.0 specification for residential light fixtures. As such, the comment period is now closed. The new Version 4.0 specification went into effect on October 1, 2005. Existing partners who wish to continue their partnership in ENERGY STAR for Residential Lighting Fixtures will be required to acknowledge the new Version 4.0 specification by submitting an updated Commitment Form. Partners and other interested parties with questions about the specification can contact Andrew Fanara, EPA, at fanara.andrew@epa.gov or Peter Banwell, EPA, at banwell.peter@epa.gov.

EPA Request for Maximum Case Operating Temperature Data
The SOP has been revised to include a clarification to the LRC’s “Proposed Durability Testing Method: Temperature” under the heading “Procedure” on page 3 of the attached document. The additional text specifies where the measurement for maximum allowable temperature should be taken if information about positioning of thermal probes is not available from the ballast manufacturer. The additional text that has been added to the SOP has been highlighted in yellow.
Over the last year, EPA has participated in discussions with the Lighting Research Center (LRC) and industry members regarding the development of a durability testing method for use in the ENERGY STAR RLF Eligibility Criteria. EPA is now requesting Maximum Case Operating Temperature data from manufacturers of the following high-risk fixtures: ceiling flush mounted and recessed models.
