The hottest trend in refrigerators isn’t stainless steel – it’s energy savings! Give a gift that can do a world of good with an ENERGY STAR certified refrigerator that uses about 9% less energy compared to standard models. You can also now find ENERGY STAR certified wine coolers and beverage centers, which are up to 20% more efficient than models that meet the federal minimum energy efficiency standard.

  • Recycle. Properly recycling and replacing your old refrigerator with a new ENERGY STAR certified model could save you about $160 on energy costs over the life of the product.
  • Go top-mounted. Top-freezer refrigerators that have earned the ENERGY STAR use less energy than a 60-watt light bulb.
  • Give it space to breathe. Leave a space between the wall and the refrigerator to allow air to circulate — this keeps the coils cooler so your refrigerator doesn’t have to work as hard. Consult your refrigerator owner manual for the recommended distance to ensure optimum energy savings.
