ENERGY STAR In Your Office — Transcript

Voice Over: Computers that have earned the EPA's ENERGY STAR perform the same but use less energy. And when you're using less energy, you are not only saving money, you're fighting global warming.

Young Man: So, this is my new ENERGY STAR qualified computer it's got these new state-of-the-art processors and power supplies that lower power consumption in every operating mode. That means it even saves energy even when I'm not using it. Overall I think it uses, like, up to 50% less energy than my old computer. So, not only do I have a great new fully loaded computer, I'm also helping protect the environment. Pretty cool, huh?

Voice Over: ENERGY STAR qualified computers are jam packed with the latest technology including power management features for greater energy savings.

Entrepreneur Woman: I bought about 100 new ENERGY STAR qualified computers for my employees and then I picked up one for my home office. By activating the power management feature on each new computer, my business is saving over $6,000 a year. The best thing is, power management automatically puts the computer into a low-power "sleep mode" after the computer has not been used for 30 minutes. So, even if people forget to turn off their computer, it's like we're automatically energy efficient now.

Voice Over: A small business with 100 computers can save $6,000 annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 100,000 lbs.

Voice Over: Your computer is just the first step in making your home office more energy efficient. EPA also recommends that you buy other ENERGY STAR qualified office products for your home including faxes, printers, copiers and even lighting.

Mother: So, I recently learned that the U.S. could save more than $600 million per year in energy costs if each household replaced old home office equipment with new ENERGY STAR qualified models. I was impressed. But, when I found out that we'd also avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 800,000 cars, I was sold. Saving money is nice, but I've got more important reasons to look for the ENERGY STAR.

Voice Over: Our home office may be different, but our need to save energy and protect the environment is the same. Join us in the fight against global warming. Learn what else you can do at energystar.gov.
