What does it mean to be an ENERGY STAR Partner?
ENERGY STAR Partners are leaders in social responsibility, helping Americans save energy, save money, and protect the environment by reducing climate change and effecting a healthier planet for all of us.
Manufacturers develop products that are third-party certified to meet strict energy efficiency specifications set by the EPA. ENERGY STAR manufacturing partners invest in the latest energy efficiency technologies to provide the highest performing products that use the least energy, including 75 types of lighting, electronics, appliances, heating and cooling equipment and even commercial products like food service and data centers. ENERGY STAR has approximately 1,900 manufacturing partners.
Retailers sell ENERGY STAR certified products, ranging from big box national retailers to regional and even your local hardware store. ENERGY STAR retail partners are committed to helping shoppers save energy by making it easy for them to find energy-saving products and providing energy-saving resources and services. ENERGY STAR has approximately 1,200 retailers that sold an average of 800,000 ENERGY STAR certified products every day in 2020.
Energy Efficiency Program Sponsors offer opportunities and incentives to help their customers reduce their energy consumption, including electric and gas utilities and other administrators of customer-funded energy efficiency programs. ENERGY STAR utility partners are committed to fulfilling localized needs and state or utility commission mandates to provide reliable energy on a least-cost basis. Providing customers programs that promote energy efficiency can avoid the need to build or ramp up an additional power plant or to buy more power or fuel from the market, thus saving customers energy and money, while also reducing carbon emissions. Today, more than 840 utilities, state and local governments, and nonprofits leverage ENERGY STAR in their efficiency programs, reaching roughly 95% of households in all 50 states.
Each year, EPA honors a group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements.
