Information About Your Climate Zone

Santa Fe County, New Mexico is located in the Northern Climate Zone. When shopping for ENERGY STAR certified windows, doors or skylights you should:

Look for these labels:

Windows, doors, and skylights that are certified to meet the ENERGY STAR requirements in your climate zone have labels with the following area shaded:

You may also find products that are certified to meet the requirements in all 50 states, and have labels that look like this:

Know the qualification criteria:

ENERGY STAR certified products must have certified U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ratings. These ratings must meet strict qualification criteria.

Windows for your zone must have

A U-factor of 0.27 or less (any SHGC is allowed)
OR
 A U-factor of 0.28 AND an SHGC of 0.32 or more
OR
 A U-factor of 0.29 AND an SHGC of 0.37 or more
OR
 A U-factor of 0.30 AND an SHGC of 0.42 or more

Skylights for your zone must have

A U-factor of 0.50 or less (any SHGC is allowed)

Doors must meet criteria based on glazing level:

Opaque doors (no glass) must have a U-factor of 0.17 or less (no SHGC requirement)

1/4- or 1/2-Lite doors (about 50% glass or less) must have a U-factor of 0.25 or less and an SHGC of 0.25 or less

3/4- or Full-Lite doors (more than 50% glass) must have a U-factor of 0.30 or less and an SHGC of 0.40 or less
