Be a “STAR” for the Environment this Earth Day!
Earth Day is April 22nd and it’s time to celebrate! You can be a STAR for the environment by taking action to save energy. How? It’s easy. Choose ENERGY STAR certified products and start saving today. Saving energy not only saves you money, it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions – helping make the Earth a healthier home for all of us.
Did you know?
The average house is responsible for about twice the greenhouse gas emissions as the average car. That’s because much of the electricity we use comes from burning fossil fuels. Using less energy means less carbon pollution.
Products that earn the ENERGY STAR are independently certified to save energy and help protect the environment. In fact, a household equipped with ENERGY STAR certified products can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 77,000 lbs and save about $8,750 in utility bills, over the products’ lifetimes.
What can you do?
Here are 3 actions you can take this Earth Day to save energy and reduce your carbon footprint:
Flip Your Fridge!
Replace your old refrigerator with a new ENERGY STAR certified model and properly recycle the old one. You could save more than $270 in energy costs over the next five years! There's never been a better time to Flip Your Fridge, because many utilities around the country are now offering deals and rebates on ENERGY STAR certified refrigerators. Visit energystar.gov/refrigeratorrebates for information on offers near you.
Light Your Moments with ENERGY STAR!
There are more than 3 billion light fixtures in homes across America with old, inefficient bulbs wasting billions of dollars in energy costs and contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. Do your part to save energy and protect the planet this Earth Day by lighting your moments with ENERGY STAR certified LED light bulbs.
High-quality ENERGY STAR certified LED light bulbs are now more affordable than ever and, only LED bulbs that have earned the ENERGY STAR label are independently certified to deliver the quality and performance you deserve. An LED bulb that has earned the ENERGY STAR uses 70-90% less energy, saves you nearly $55 over its lifetime, and lasts at least 15 times longer than an incandescent bulb.
If every American replaced just one light bulb with one that has earned the ENERGY STAR, we would prevent nearly 7 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions every year - equivalent to those from 640,000 cars.
