While ENERGY STAR certification for new construction multifamily buildings was previously allowed through the Certified Homes and MFHR programs, the ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction (MFNC) program is now required for any multifamily building with building permits on or after July 1, 2021.
The ENERGY STAR Certified Homes program regularly receives partner questions and comments and often makes improvements in response to this feedback. Version 3.1 of the ENERGY STAR Certified Homes National Program Requirements has been developed for homes in states that have adopted the 2012 IECC, or equivalent. The purpose of this new version is to ensure that the ENERGY STAR certified homes program will continue to deliver meaningful savings relative to non-certified homes in states with this more rigorous code.
