TOPICAL SESSIONS

EXPANDING THE REACH OF ENERGY STAR QUALIFIED LIGHTING TO OTHER MARKETS

Though significant attention has been given to strategies for marketing programs to residential customers, additional opportunities exist to offer ENERGY STAR qualified lighting to targeted market sectors including multifamily housing and public housing authorities. Also, there is opportunity to tailor marketing of ENERGY STAR lighting to unique demographic groups, for example, Hispanic audiences. Hear from Energy Efficiency Program Sponsors (EEPS) on "what sells" to these various end-users.

MORNING PLENARY
SHADES OF WHITE: COMMUNICATING THE COLOR OF LIGHT

This plenary will present the hurdles currently facing the lighting industry — how to communicate to consumers and others the color of the fluorescent light. Is it the color of the light? Or is it how objects appear when near the light? The presenters will review the complex problem and then focus on how industry and the research field are teaming up to identify solutions through embarking on a two-prong approach — working with other industries (paint, graphics, photography, etc.) as well as holding consumer focus groups.

ON-LINE BULK PURCHASING TOOL FOR ENERGY STAR QUALIFIED CFLS

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was created by DOE to assist low-income families in reducing their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. In 2002, WAP developed an initiative to aid state weatherization agencies in developing bulk purchasing programs to procure ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators for installation in weatherized homes. Based on the success of this program, WAP has worked with ENERGY STAR to develop an online bulk-purchasing tool for qualified CFLs. Presenters will demonstrate the features of the on-line tool from both the purchaser and supplier vantage point. Attend this session to learn about applications of the tool and how your company can get involved.
