Harness a standardized, nationwide energy efficiency program

ENERGY STAR Logo

ENERGY STAR is the most nation’s most popular and successful above-code efficiency program. More than 2 million homes have been certified as ENERGY STAR, by a vast, cross-country network of specially trained raters.

By harnessing the ENERGY STAR label, utilities and other program sponsors can implement demand-side management programs that drive energy efficiency across the market while capturing long-term peak and energy demand savings.

The ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction program is applicable to most residential construction types. Join to receive:

Detailed verification of efficiency measures

The ENERGY STAR inspection checklists demonstrate that efficiency measures are properly installed and that homes and apartments are performing optimally.

Using the checklists, builders can assure sponsors that construction projects are free from thermal defects, contain properly installed and rated HVAC systems, and have roofs, walls, and foundations protected from water intrusion.

Greater savings with each certified home

ENERGY STAR certified homes and apartments are designed to exceed minimum energy code requirements by at least 10%. With the program's detailed reference design, utilities can confidently assess peak demand and energy savings while enjoying support from quality assurance protocols that deliver measurable results.

Access to the ENERGY STAR brand

About 90% of American households recognize the blue ENERGY STAR label. This widespread awareness means the program is highly trusted by consumers.

Partnering with ENERGY STAR makes it easy for homebuyers to find and buy energy-efficient homes and apartments, and for builders and developers to stand out in the resale market.

Free resources and support

ENERGY STAR provides marketing, technical, and programmatic resources and support, including:

  • Outreach materials to entice builders, developers, verification professionals, and other partners.
  • Expert one-on-one guidance, online trainings, and webinars.
  • Best practices for program design and implementation.
