Positive Results from Midstream Program Sponsors

EEPS with midstream programs benefit by significantly reducing the outreach burden.  For instance, midstream programs only need to engage a few dealers and distributors to capture the broad extent of end users in their service territory. Many of the most successful program sponsors have seen impressive results, highlights of which are shared below.

CFS Efficiency Program Highlights from Program Sponsors

DTE
  • In the first year of operation, DTE saw a 10-fold increase in program incentives paid out.
  • The program has steadily increased the number of participating dealers/distributors, with a 50% increase in recent years, from 12 to 18 dealers/distributors.
  • Coordination with a well-known food service sales software provider has streamlined the program on the distributor side, making it easier for distributors to keep track of available rebates.
  • In a recent evaluation, the program earned a 94% customer satisfaction score with reasons for satisfaction including:
    • Money saved via the rebates (35%),
    • The ease of participating in the program (27%), and
    • The value of purchasing more energy efficient products (12%).

National Grid

  • National Grid saw purchases of ENERGY STAR certified convection ovens and fryers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island increase 2- to 4-fold in the first three years after introducing a midstream incentive.
  • The program reached more customers, from small restaurants to large universities.
  • Dealers reported stocking ENERGY STAR certified equipment instead of used and/or non-certified products.

California Foodservice Instant Rebate Logo

  • The California Foodservice Instant Rebates Program launched in April 2021 and offers Instant Rebates to California IOU* qualifying customers for purchasing high-efficiency commercial foodservice equipment, spiffs to participants for each eligible sale, enrollment bonuses to new participants, and incentives to manufacturer representatives  for helping with the sale of efficient equipment.
  • The Program offers a diverse mix of equipment with over 60 qualifying natural gas and electric measures.
  • Over 30% of the Program’s participation comes from sales channels and market actors other than cash-and-carry dealers including chain and national accounts, manufacturers, and design build firms.

*The California IOUs: SoCalGas®, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E®), Southern California Edison Company (SCE®), and San Diego Gas and Electric Company (SDG&E®).
