Why It Makes Business Sense

It makes sense to focus on air-source heat pumps due to their growing popularity and profitable opportunities from new legislation.

Enables a competitive advantage

Stocking HVAC heat pump equipment is a smart move as its popularity surges and upcoming legislation and electrification trends create a lucrative opportunity. By preparing now to sell and install these systems, you can stay ahead of the competition.

Take advantage of legislation

We’re in the midst of a great opportunity to help customers lower their first cost of this equipment. Starting January 1, 2025, ENERGY STAR Most Efficient air-source heat pumps qualify for a 30% federal tax credit on unit and installation costs (up to $2,000/year) plus utility rebates in many areas, offering a historically high incentive through two pathways: cold climate or cooling/dual-fuel systems. Both are available nationwide.

Consumer demand is growing

ENERGY STAR is leading an ongoing nationwide campaign to raise awareness and guide consumers towards certified installers, and hundreds of utilities are actively promoting this technology and valuable rebates.

Why customers prefer heat pumps

Green checkmark

Use significantly less energy

ENERGY STAR heat pumps can reduce heating costs by up to 60% compared to conventional systems by transferring heat rather than generating it. With a typical household energy bill at $1,900 annually, nearly half of which is spent on heating and cooling, air-source heat pumps can significantly lower these expenses.

Clean heating and cooling

By reducing emissions from fossil fuel combustion, heat pumps appeal to an increasingly environmentally conscious consumer base.

Green checkmark

Year-round comfort

They provide efficient cooling with quiet operation and adjustable speeds to save energy and money, offering both heating and cooling in one device.

More affordable than ever

Stacked offer

Contractors should be aware of the various rebates, credits, and promotional offers available that can be combined to reduce the final cost for the customer. This Home Improvement Savings tool highlights available offers across the nation.

Quick payback

Switching from an oil heating system to an ENERGY STAR certified air-source heat pump can save you, on average, about $950 a year, and you can save an average of $460 annually when replacing an electric resistant heater. This means a significantly quicker payback compared to standard systems.
