Home Renovation and ENERGY STAR Lighting: Capturing Lost OpportunitiesWith interest rates at historic lows over the past few years, there has been tremendous investment by consumers in the renovation of their current homes and purchases of existing homes. Typical home renovations include kitchens, family rooms, bathrooms, new additions, and redecorating existing rooms. All of these activities create opportunities to install ENERGY STAR qualified lighting. Panelists will discuss strategies for increasing the purchase and installation of ENERGY STAR qualified lighting in renovation projects including how and when to impact consumer renovation lighting decisions, current product options, and challenges working with the renovation industry. CFL Color: Hitting the Bull's EyeThis session will provide a venue to continue the discussion on what are the best measures and procedures to provide consistent CFL color. The session will begin with an overview of the CFL Color Roundtable meeting at the Lighting Research Center in February as well as a discussion of the proposed "hockey-stick" shape for chromaticity measurements and tolerances between 2700-3000K and other color temperature ranges. Lighting Design and Sales with the ENERGY STAR Advanced Lighting Package for New ConstructionAttendees will learn how to use the ENERGY STAR Advanced Lighting Package (ALP) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) available resources to help promote and sell ALPs to builders. An overview of the ALP technical specification, marketing strategies, tools for selling the ALP, and examples of lighting designs that meet the ALP requirements will be presented. EPA will share past marketing successes and lessons learned that will help fixture and ceiling fan manufacturers, showrooms and electrical distributors avoid pitfalls in developing their own lighting packages. Also, selling the benefits to builders, what builders are looking for, and designing with the ALP and energy-efficiency will be shared. Selling It: Increasing the Market Presence of ENERGY STAR Qualified Ceiling Fans in RetailIn this round table discussion, ceiling fan manufacturers and retailers will describe the progress of increasing their inventory and sales of ENERGY STAR qualified ceiling fan fixtures. The session will also highlight the role of energy-efficiency programs in designing and selling fashion-forward products marketed to consumers primarily on style and decor. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will also share information on this year's ENERGY STAR Cool Change Campaign, including campaign focus, marketing materials and PR approach as it relates to ceiling fans.
