This Earth Day, it only takes a dollar to make a difference in protecting the climate. With the support of more than 23 utilities around the country, Greenlite Lighting Corporation and Dollar Tree are teaming up to sell one million ENERGY STAR certified LED light bulbs—each for $1. The latest in efficient lighting technology, just one of these bulbs can save a household $75 in electricity costs over its lifetime. All together, the electricity savings from these one million bulbs will contribute greenhouse gas reductions of more than 1.3 billion pounds.

At a time when many Americans are still struggling to pay the bills, it is wonderful to see confirmation that protecting the environment can also be good for your pocketbook. We're proud of the work the Environmental Protection Agency and our partners do through the ENERGY STAR program that makes it easy for all of us to be part of the solution, in ways that also help lower our energy bills. Thousands of companies like Greenlite enable this through voluntary commitments to making products that meet the highest standards for energy efficiency readily available to their customers.

Products that earn the ENERGY STAR are special. Beware of bargain light bulbs that don’t feature the little blue label. Only ENERGY STAR bulbs are independently certified based on rigorous testing against more than 20 requirements to deliver energy savings and quality performance. And they last 10 to 25 times longer than traditional bulbs!
