Nothing says summer like cooling off in the pool. But, paying to run a pool pump adds up to a lot more than the cost of burgers and hot dogs at your next pool party. In fact, your pool pump could be the second largest energy user in your home. If your pool pump is 7-10 years old, losing power, or making noise, it may be time to replace it. Tell your contractor that you want an ENERGY STAR certified pool pump, and save energy, save money and help protect the environment this summer.

Did You Know?
ENERGY STAR certified pool pumps:
- Use up to 70% less energy than standard pool pumps – which can be the second largest energy draw in your home, costing you an average of $460 in electric bills annually.
- Run quieter and prolong the life of your pool’s filtering system.
- Can save you up to $340 per year in electric bills. In fact, a certified pump can pay for its additional upfront cost in less than 2 years!
If all pool pumps sold in the United States were ENERGY STAR certified, the energy cost savings would grow to about $155 million each year and 2.5 billion pounds of annual greenhouse gas emissions would be prevented, equivalent to the emission from more than 260,000 vehicles. How do they save energy?
Conventional pool pumps use the same pump speed regardless of the task assigned, wasting energy. Filtration, which is what pool pumps are predominately used for, requires half the flow rate of pool vacuuming. ENERGY STAR certified pool pumps use less energy by operating at multiple speeds.
