The Energy Source

Plugging you into the latest from ENERGY STAR

Make this Back-to-School Season Green!

Summer’s nearly over, and the kids are heading back to school. Learn some simple ways you can save energy and make this “back-to-school” season GREEN!

  1. Shop green. Tackling those never-ending school supplies lists? Make your trip as green as possible by shopping at an ENERGY STAR certified store. These stores use 35 percent less energy and cause 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar retail stores. Find one near you.
  2. Upgrade your computer and save! These days, kids of all ages use a computer to complete homework assignments. Whether it’s a desktop or a laptop, make sure it’s ENERGY STAR certified and you could use up to 60 percent less energy. Go one step further and activate the power management features and you could save an additional $50 per year on your energy bill.
  3. Bring your green to school. You’ve taught your kids how to save energy at home – now, it’s time they apply those same rules at school! Turn off the lights when leaving the room, shut down computers when they are not in use, and keep doors shut while the AC or heater is running, are all tips that make a difference whether at home or at school!
  4. Learn from the Lorax! Any teachers out there? Make learning about protecting the environment fun with our kid-friendly Activity Books, available for free to schools, classrooms, and parents across the country! Stock your classroom with these engaging workbooks, including our new and improved Lorax Activity Book! To download or order free copies, visit the ENERGY STAR publications page
