American Institute of Architects 
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) promotes integrated, energy performance design through its AIA 2030 Commitment.  Architects are challenged to design and construct buildings to reduce fossil fuel energy and CO₂ emissions by 2030. AIA released the Data Design Exchange (DDx) tool to track energy performance across multiple years of a firm’s portfolio. The DDx has an interface to EPA’s Target Finder tool to help architects set EUI targets for their projects.  Many of the AIA 2030 projects may be eligible for EPA recognition by achieving Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR.

Architecture 2030 
All new buildings, developments, and major renovations should be designed to meet a 50-percent fossil fuel and greenhouse gas emission reduction standard, measured from the regional (or national) average for that building type.

Autodesk Green Building Studio 
This Web-based energy analysis service helps architects and designers evaluate how building components affect energy consumption and improve a project's economic and environmental performance early in the design process. Green Building Studio has a cross-platform interface with EPA's Target Finder for determining if the design achieves desired energy goals.

Green Globes Design 
Green Globes Design is both a guide for integrating green design principles and an assessment protocol. Using confidential questionnaires for each stage of project delivery, the program generates comprehensive online assessment and guidance reports. Using Green Globes helps architects design a building that will be energy- and resource-efficient, achieve operational savings, and be healthier to work or live in.

New Buildings Institute 
The Core Performance Guide outlines a step-by-step simplified approach to achieve predictable energy savings in small- to medium-sized buildings without the need for modeling. The guide is a resource on how to deliver best-in-class energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality in high performance commercial buildings.

U.S. Green Building Council 
The U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EB: O&M) Green Building Rating System™ helps building owners and operators measure operations, improvements, and maintenance on a consistent scale, with the goal of maximizing operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts. LEED-EB: O&M incorporates EPA’s 1 – 100 ENERGY STAR score for eligible property types available in Portfolio Manager as a compliance path under the Energy and Atmosphere category.

State & Local Governments
State and local governments across the country are taking bold steps to fight climate change and lower energy costs by adopting policies that leverage EPA tools from ENERGY STAR to reduce energy use in commercial buildings. Legislation refers to tools such as Target Finder to set whole-building energy performance targets for building design projects and Portfolio Manager to track energy use, energy costs, and carbon emissions in existing buildings.
