Why build with advanced electric technologies?
Advanced electric technologies help to make ENERGY STAR NextGen homes and apartments 20% more energy efficient than homes built to typical code levels (on average), with reduced greenhouse gas emissions of up to 80%.
Homes and apartments that earn ENERGY STAR NextGen certification must include the following leading-edge features, which improve not only the health of the homeowner but also the planet:
- ENERGY STAR Certified Heat Pumps: More efficient than furnaces or boilers, heat pumps serve double duty with heating and cooling, making them usable year-round.
- ENERGY STAR Certified Heat Pump Water Heaters: Heat pump water heaters that earn the ENERGY STAR label are up to four times more efficient and use 70 percent less energy than a standard model.
- Electric and Induction Cooking: Eliminate the emissions of indoor air pollutants associated with gas combustion, including carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide, and contribute to a healthier indoor living environment.
- Capacity for Level 2 EV Charger Installation: In homes with private parking, a Level 2 EV charger is installed, or a heavy-duty power outlet is provided that can be used to charge an EV.
What incentives are available?
Many utilities offer incentives to builders for certifying their homes as ENERGY STAR, and a growing number are adding new incentives for ENERGY STAR NextGen homes. Explore available incentives >>
A federal tax credit is also available. The § 45L New Energy Efficient Home Credit has been updated and extended through 2032. Earning the credit now requires certification to an eligible version of the ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction program requirements, and all homes and apartments that earn ENERGY STAR NextGen certification also qualify.
