ITW Food Equipment Group (ITW FEG), a proud ENERGY STAR® Sustained Excellence recipient in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and Partner of the Year in 2008 and 2009 continues to uncover new energy- efficiency opportunities and technologies for foodservice and grocery operations. ITW FEG companies (Hobart, Traulsen, Stero, Vulcan, Wittco, Wolf) offer 512 ENERGY STAR qualified units in seven categories, up from 364 units in 2011 (a 40% increase). This represents 62.4% of the entire product line-up compared with 52.5% a year ago. Hobart is dedicated to expanding its ENERGY STAR qualified product offering and in 2012 applied its patented Advansys" Energy Recovery technology to flight-type and undercounter warewashers. Depending on the type of warewasher required, Advansys Energy Recovery can help operators save up to $28,401 per year in energy and water costs. Vulcan significantly increased the number of ENERGY STAR qualified fryers using its exclusive FivePass" heat-transfer system to achieve the highest cooking efficiency available in a gas commercial fryer per ENERGY STAR standards. Vulcan is using ENERGY STAR standards as a key design requirement for a new holding cabinet and high- efficiency/high-production gas griddle. ITW FEG pursued energy-efficient product development in non-qualified categories such as blast chillers, charbroilers and rack ovens. The new Traulsen blast chiller has an energy-saving chilling cycle that reduces energy use by 10% compared with the standard cycle. Vulcan's innovative VTEC Series Infrared Charbroiler uses up to 50% less energy. The new Baxter rack oven has the lowest annual operating cost of ovens tested in a recent Food Service Technology Center report.
