CEMEX is a global building materials company that provides cement, ready-mix concrete and aggregates. The Clinchfield cement plant has continuously produced Portland and masonry cements since 1925. The plant produces more than 800,000 tons of cement annually for use in area homes, roads, schools and businesses in Georgia, Alabama, Florida and the Carolinas. The Clinchfield cement plant employs approximately 125 local men and women and connecting with numerous vendors throughout the state.
The Clinchfield cement plant has supported several sustainable development and energy efficiency projects. The Clinchfield plant recovers energy from local renewable fuel sources such as peanut shells, sawdust, pecan shells, and tires.
Throughout the year, the Clinchfield cement plant puts into practice the energy-efficiency principles established by the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Guidelines for Energy Management. The plant implemented energy conservation and monitoring technologies, promoted energy-efficiency awareness among employees and completed energy-reduction projects. The plant is very proud of the work it has done to attain ENERGY STAR® certification.
CEMEX continuously improves operation and efficiency through the implementation of the CEMEX Energy Policy and comprehensive energy management program. This is accomplished by optimizing equipment operating time through automation, providing operators with real-time energy information, conducting process audits, and installing more efficient equipment. Key equipment yield and utilization are continuously monitored against targets by top management to ensure optimum operation and energy efficiency.
CEMEX’s U.S. network includes 11 cement plants, 43 distribution terminals, more than 50 aggregate quarries and more than 270 ready-mix concrete plants. CEMEX is a partner of the ENERGY STAR® program.
