In 2000,
Technology was only one part of these improvements. Classroom energy audits identified areas that could be improved. The corporation began tracking utility bills in a new program, Metrix, and sending out monthly reports to building operators and administrators to promote constant awareness of energy usage. Student and staff education encouraged good habits such as turning off unused lights, unplugging unused electronics, and simple awareness of waste. These small but powerful actions are a part of everyday life in the New Albany Floyd County School Corporation. Through education and accountability, staff and students have become conditioned to these habits.
Greenville Elementary has found EPA's ENERGY STAR guidelines to be extremely helpful in its goal of reducing the use of natural resources and avoiding expense to the corporation. In the spirit of progress, Greenville Elementary and the other schools and buildings in the program are working toward the ultimate goal of ensuring an environmentally friendly corporation for the benefit of students, staff, and the community.
