Through commitment, changed behavior patterns, and careful ongoing auditing, the district has saved more than $14 million (38 percent) in annual energy bills over a 12.5 year period and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 115,611 metric tons of carbon dioxide, the emissions from 20,751 cars, or 2,957,109 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
