Map It!
Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability as well as taxpayer savings, the building was situated specifically on the corner of an existing community green space in such a way as to preserve as much green space as possible. The site also created the opportunity for shared parking between the new Village Hall and the existing library, and a walking path now connects the Village Hall and library to public gardens, a new basketball court, and the parking area. In addition, offices were designed so many Village employees have expansive views of the green space.
A sampling of additional elements that conserve both environmental and financial resources includes:
• Capturing, controlling, and using natural daylight as a valuable asset through building orientation and thoughtful window location;
• Utilizing the existing tree line to provide shade in summer and allow in more sun/heat in winter;
• Installing highly efficient lighting fixtures and lighting controls such as occupancy sensors and dual switched lighting;
• Selecting low-flow plumbing fixtures;
• Installing energy efficient HVAC/mechanical equipment that is centrally located so conditioned air has less distance to travel.

Testimonial:
"Part of the benefit of the project for me -- actually one of my favorite things about the project -- was being able to wake up in the morning and play architect and think to myself, it's not just what I’ve left behind as a building, its what’s left outside of that building. So we were able to make use of that site naturally as well."
