Det Norske Vertias (DNV) is a 2-story, 90,000-square-foot Class A office building owned and operated by Duke Realty Limited Partnership. Built in 2009, the building was designed by Powers Brown & Ziegler Cooper Architecture. DNV is proud to participate in the ENERGY STAR program and has earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance as a result of its continuing commitment to energy efficiency in all its operations.


Starting with the exterior of the building, the reflective materials used on the roof and concrete paving are cooler and significantly reduce the heat island effect associated with higher heat retention in urban areas. The outdoor lighting fixtures have been angled to reduce light pollution. For exterior site irrigation, a soaker system was installed to reduce water consumption by more than half. 


Inside the building, efficient plumbing fixtures reduce water use by more than one third. All windows have been specially glazed to allow natural light to enter while reducing heat gain inside the building. Energy saving appliances and fixtures can be found throughout the structure. The building is serviced by a green energy provider ensuring that a percentage of non-carbon based renewables--such as wind--supply power. The air quality is constantly monitored for carbon dioxide, and the building is designed to provide thermal comfort by balancing zones throughout the building. The programmable system is monitored and can be calibrated based on feedback from our employees.
