227 Trade Street Suite 330
Charlotte, NC 28202
Owned and managed by Hines, the Carillon Building is a 24-story, 471,251-square-foot office tower in the center of Uptown Charlotte. Designed by Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates, Carillon was completed in 1991. The structure is recognizable by an architecturally distinct, soaring, peaked roof; expansive windows help to flood the interior with light; a multi-story interior lobby, also serving as an art gallery, provides an elegant, airy entry; a 40-foot kinetic sculpture by Jean Tinguely--suspended above a reflecting pool in the lobby--is an additional distinguishing feature.
Carillon earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance as a result of active energy management practices and select energy-saving infrastructure retrofits. For instance, 22 new high-efficiency air-handling unit motors were installed, helping to reduce energy consumption in the HVAC systems. Building lighting has been another focus, with illumination in common areas, such as elevator lobbies, retrofitted from a combination of incandescent and halogen lighting to low-wattage compact fluorescent lamps. On the energy management front, building management at Carillon uses a digital building automation system to monitor and track energy consumption, using the findings to adjust practices for greater efficiency.
Hines has been recognized with multiple ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence and Partner of the Year awards. For a summary of the firm's participation in the ENERGY STAR program and other sustainability information, visit www.hines.com/sustainability.
