In 2003, Wayne County Public Schools entered into a strategic partnership with Energy Education Inc., an energy conservation consulting firm, to implement energy saving measures. An energy manager was hired to head up the school's energy conservation efforts. Through building audits, the team identified several energy saving measures.
Through routine preventative maintenance, the Maintenance Department has been able to ensure that all air filters are changed on a regular basis and that all lighting and time clocks are working properly, increasing the building's energy savings.
Additionally, Rosewood Elementary School has increased its energy efficiency by addressing the potential savings that can be met through behavioral changes. The team has educated its staff on more energy-efficient ways they can operate their classrooms while maintaining the comfort and learning experience of their students.
By both improving equipment efficiency and involving the building occupants in energy saving efforts, Rosewood Elementary School earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance.
