As a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and EPA's ENERGY STAR? program, Highwoods Properties is committed to reducing the consumption of valuable natural resources in all of our operations. We are focused on developing and operating more energy-efficient buildings throughout our portfolio and, when warranted, applying for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and the ENERGY STAR label. A few examples of recent energy-saving improvements include lighting upgrades (more energy-efficient bulbs and ballasts), selective use of motion-detected lighting, and installing variable-speed HVAC drives.

Capital Plaza One, located in the heart of Orlando's central business district, is a 15-story high-rise building overlooking Lake Eola.

Sustainability features include bike storage, an energy management system, energy sub-metering, green cleaning, hands-free restroom fixtures, high-efficiency HVAC drives, high-efficiency lighting, low VOC finishes, low water irrigation, monitored ventilation, occupancy sensors, a recycling program, reduced-use paper products, structured parking, water conservation fixtures, water reclaim system, white roof (SRI > 78), 50 percent parking under cover, and public transit access.
