Store Manager Bill Mitchell and Assistant Store Manager Vladimir Montes take an active role in their store's energy awareness by reviewing their overall HVAC equipment and lighting schedules by looking for ways to optimize operational run times. Through their efforts, the store reduced the time needed for pre-opening replenishment and recovery of the sales floor by almost 65-hours total per week, thus reducing the lighting and mechanical services required. Mr. Mitchell also has been an active volunteer in testing the software applications JCPenney has been developing to help store managers conserve energy. Because of proper maintenance and employee awareness and engagement, this store is a prime example of what occupants/operators can achieve given the age of their building.
Based on the energy trend graphs, the store had managed to maintain an ENERGY STAR score in the 77-79 range for the entire year, using just under 40-KBTU/sq.ft.on average.
JCPenney continues to invest in projects to reduce this building's environmental impact and promote energy efficiency. JCPenney has expanded its energy initiatives to its entire chain of more than 1100 retail stores through the use of ongoing education, awareness and energy reduction programs.
