5700 Canoga Avenue earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance first and foremost as a result of original building design and specifications that emphasize energy efficiency, an issue brought to the fore in the severe California energy crunch that coincided with the initial development. Light-colored exterior masonry, reflective dual-pane windows, and high-efficiency HVAC systems were all part of the original design. In addition, 5700 Canoga Avenue operates with a complete digital building automation system utilizing start optimization and direct digital control of the HVAC system. Such features help to ensure that the building's energy consumption is closely aligned with actual demand. They also give property managers the ability to shed load during times of peak system demand.
