The Oliver R. Ocasek Government Office Building is the third building owned and operated by the Ohio Building Authority (OBA) to earn the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance.

The 200,000-square-foot Ocasek Building opened in 1984 and houses approximately 500 State, County, and City employees. The Ocasek Building was originally designed with many energy-efficient features. A barrel vault skylight runs from end to end, naturally illuminating a five-story atrium. The windows on the southern exposure of the building are shaded by an external, metal frame supported glass sunscreen. The custom-built air handlers that serve the building utilize variable speed drives to reduce fan operating costs.

Recent energy efficiency upgrades include the installation of a new high efficiency roof and a complete lighting system retrofit. The lighting upgrades included high efficiency T8 lamps and ballasts and occupancy sensors to shut off lights in areas that are not in use. Mechanical system improvements included converting an outdated pneumatic Building Automation System (BAS) to a new direct digital control (DDC) system. Modifications to the chilled water plant included converting the constant volume chilled water pumping system to a primary-secondary system with variable speed drives on the secondary pumps. Also installed was a new HVAC water management control system for optimized operating efficiency. In addition to the HVAC system improvements, variable speed pumping controls were added to the domestic water system.

The upgrades have resulted in the Ocasek Building receiving an energy performance score of 92.
