The Port Angeles Federal Building, located on the Olympic Peninsula in northwestern Washington State, houses offices for the Social Security Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Customs Service, and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

The 67-year-old building is a registered national historic property, and as such, requires special care and handling when modifying. The General Services Administration took great pains to ensure that special procedures were followed when it installed electronic ballasts and an efficient HVAC system into the structure several years ago. In addition, an overall building tune-up was performed, measures to reduce load were undertaken, and an Energy Management System (EMS) was introduced to provide for seamless interaction among the operations and maintenance equipment. Preventive maintenance practices are strictly followed to ensure that all equipment operates at its maximum efficiency. Energy-conscious tenants also contribute to the success in achieving energy efficiency.

The General Services Administration pursued the ENERGY STAR Label for Buildings to show its support for the program and to comply with Executive Order 13123 - Greening the Government Through Efficient Energy Management.
