Nearly a decade ago, the Blue Earth County Board of Commissioners had a vision to use tools provided by EPA and work with local vendors to make updates to the historic courthouse completed in 1889, with the aim of enhancing energy efficiency and saving taxpayer dollars. Blue Earth County first earned the ENERGY STAR label for this Courthouse in 2006. The County also promotes ENERGY STAR qualified products and energy-saving practices to constituents and others across the United States through its own individual efforts and its partnership with the National Association of Counties.

Communications:

Blue Earth County is active in spreading the word about ENERGY STAR through ongoing public outreach, such as the "ENERGY STAR Concert on the Courthouse Lawn" event. The County  circulates information about ENERGY STAR to all county residents, and staff members give presentations on ENERGY STAR tools and resources locally, state-wide, and at the national level.
