Located in the heart of downtown St. Paul, The Golden Rule Building is a 300,000 square foot turn of the century office building. Commercial Real Estate Services, Inc., the on-site property management company for the building, is responsible for providing the management and leasing of the building. Our goal is to maintain a professional atmosphere while providing a comfortable and productive work environment.
The Golden Rule Building was originally established as a store in St. Paul in 1886 and moved into a three-story building on the current site in 1891. Under the direction of Clarence H. Johnston Sr., architect, additions were made in 1901, 1910, and 1914, and a new facade was added then. Johnston renovated the older structure into its current six-story Neo-Classical Revival style with an elaborate cornice and classical detailing. In 1983, the Building was renovated into an office building by a local entrepreneur who had the vision of turning it into office space for one of his businesses. The building has been completely renovated since. The building is currently fully occupied with tenants from the financial services industry as well as the State government of Minnesota department offices.
Energy savings has been accomplished by lighting retrofits, variable frequency drive installations and a new building automation system. These enhancements combined with the operational expertise of a dedicated and knowledgeable maintenance staff has allowed management to cut energy expenses for this building by 32 percent since 1997.
