Map It!
The design of the Paul Findley Federal Building combines the Federalist (or Neoclassical) and Art Deco styles of architecture. Located in Springfield, Illinois, it houses offices of the US District Courts, the US Bankruptcy Courts, the US Probation Office, the US Marshall Service, and the US Attorney Office. The three-story building is owned and operated by the General Services Administration (GSA).
Since its construction in 1930, energy efficiency measures have been implemented to meet mandated reduction goals and to reduce operating expenses. The systems of the building are continually monitored and adjusted by an Energy Management System (EMS) to provide optimum operation. Energy efficient products are used in any modifications performed. The building uses several small boilers instead of one or two larger units, which enables increased flexibility in satisfying varying heat loads. Other upgrades that contributed to the building achieving the ENERGY STAR Label for Buildings include a new cooling system, lighting retrofits, Variable Frequency Drives, and different chiller configurations.
The awarding of the ENERGY STAR Label is a reflection of the efforts of maintenance and property management staff to reduce energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable work environment for its tenants.

Testimonial:
"The current efficiencies enjoyed at the labeled buildings in our region are the result of over 15 years worth of examination, evaluation, and implementation of energy saving philosophies and ideas. When considering equipment replacements we encourage thinking outside of the box. It is this thinking that has resulted in some unique equipment applications that have proven to be beneficial in reducing both energy and maintenance costs."
-- Bruce Wagner, General Services Administration
