Aiken Regional Medical Centers (ARMC), located on 44 acres in Aiken, South Carolina, opened its doors in 1917 as the Aiken Hospital and Relief Society. The ARMC Campus is comprised of a 383,000-square-foot hospital, a 62,000-square-foot inpatient behavioral health facility, a 7,600-square-foot cancer center, a 4,500-square-foot wound care and hyperbaric treatment center, and a number of other on-and off- campus ancillary facilities.
ARMC has been working towards improving energy efficiency throughout the organization since 2004, with the goal of being the most efficient hospital facility and campus in the state of South Carolina. Some examples of the energy efficiency projects that ARMC undertook as part of that strategy are:
-- 2004 - 2005: Replaced T12 ballasts and bulbs with T8 energy efficient bulbs and electronic ballasts
-- 2006: Energy management system implemented to control approximately 80% of the main facility's heating/cooling requirements
-- 2007 - 2011: Variable speed drives were installed on all air handlers, cooling towers and motors
-- 2010: Installed Miura energy efficient modular boilers
-- 2010-2012: Replaced approximately 80% of the existing roof system
-- 2013: Replaced all Parking Lot lighting to LED, Replaced AHU-11, which included VFD's, bypass dampers and various energy management controls. Replaced all outdated electricals and completed the ARC Flashing program for all panels in the main hospital. Installed FM Global approved roofing at the Aurora Pavillion.
These projects resulted in significant improvements in energy efficiency and lower energy costs. Additional opportunities continue to be implemented, with the following projects planned for 2014:
-- Completed final phase of the roofing projected installed by Lloyd's roofing.
-- Calibrated and balanced all HVAC equipment including our three boilers.
-- Replacement of AHU-8
-- MRI Replacement
-- New energy audit meter being installed on main power
Projects for 2016:
Aiken
regional is proud to announce we are install 312 solar panels on the
roof. The project is scheduled to be completed by December.
