With the help of an Interval Data Recorder meter, the energy usage of this store is monitored on a next-day basis to identify any irregularities and/or deficiencies as they occur so they can be addressed early. The store is also one of nine stores that received a solar system installation as part of the JCPenney solar pilot program in 2008.

This store exemplifies how the collective efforts of all associates are integral to ensuring that the store operates as efficiently as it can. Store Manager Tim McCarthy is very energy conscious and has been actively involved in all of JCPenney's energy initiatives from its inception. Leading the charge to save energy, McCarthy encourages his associates to consider all aspects of the store--from making sure lights are turned off in unoccupied rooms, addressing or reporting any energy issues, and keeping the mechanical spaces clean to ensure all equipment is operating efficiently.

Based on the energy trend graphs, the store has maintained an energy performance score in the 78-83 range for the entire year, maintaining their average energy intensity at about 50-KBTU/sq.ft.

JCPenney continues to invest in projects to reduce this building's environmental impact and promote energy conservation. JCPenney has expanded its energy management initiatives throughout the company's 1,100 stores by championing ongoing education, awareness, and energy reduction programs.
