Built in 2006, the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Center for Health and Healing is a 16-story green building housing physician practices, education and research activities, retail operations, and a health and wellness center with a gym, four-lane lap pool, therapy pool, weight training area, and day spa. Not only did the OHSU Center for Health and Healing earn the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance, it also obtained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification for its additional green designs, making it the largest LEED Platinum building in the United States at the time of certification.

The building's design includes such green measures as:

61 percent more energy-efficient design than Oregon Energy Code requirements.
60-kW solar photovoltaics integrated with the south-facing window overhangs for sun shades.
300-kW output from five microturbines.
A Central Utility Plant (CUP) that provides electricity, chilled water, and thermal energy.
Radiant heating/cooling with thermal energy storage.
Egress stairwell towers with daylighting and natural ventilation.
Displacement ventilation systems in exam rooms.
Fanwall technology for main air handlers and life safety smoke control systems.
On-site rainwater and groundwater re-use systems.
On-site wastewater treatment, with treated effluent used for toilet flushing, mechanical cooling, and irrigation.
