New York Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) is the largest hospital in New York and one of the most comprehensive and respected university hospitals in the world, providing state-of-the-art inpatient, ambulatory, and preventative care in all areas of medicine. Located at East 68th Street in the borough of Manhattan, NYP?s Weill Cornell Medical Center (NYP/WCMC) is composed of 12 interconnected buildings, with a floor area of nearly 3 million square feet. NYP is proud to be an ongoing EPA ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. In 2011, NYP/WCMC was further honored by achieving the ENERGY STAR, having achieved a total source energy use intensity of 380 kBtu/sqft/year and greenhouse gas emissions of 92,161 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. NYP/WCMC operates at an energy use intensity of 25 percent less than the national average for acute care hospital facilities.

NYP/WCMC is served by a hospital-owned and operated central heating and cooling plant that includes a 7.5 Megawatt Cogeneration System. The CoGen Plant at NYP/WCMC has been in operation since 2009 and has realized annual cost savings of over $6 million while reducing emissions of carbon dioxide by over 25,000 tons per year.

NYP has a well established and robust Energy Management Program that monitors campus utility usage, commodity market trends, and maintenance and operations practices in order to continually improve efficiency and performance of infrastructure assets. These efforts have reduced the energy use intensity of the NYP/WCMC by 16 percent since 2006. The hospital also has a Sustainability Office that encourages and informs all of our patients, visitors, and staff persons on ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle all of the many supplies and materials required in a large, academic medical center.
