Located in Kansas City, MO, the building houses the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. Trustees, U.S. Attorneys Office, and U.S. Marshals Service.
The U.S. General Services Administration completed several energy-saving projects through an Energy Saving Performance Contract. GSA modified the building automation system, installed occupancy sensors, upgraded lighting system features, and installed variable frequency drives (VFDs) on fan systems.
As for the future of energy efficiency at the Whittaker Courthouse, GSA plans to upgrade the building energy management system (EMS) to provide more precise control of mechanical systems and more detailed trending analysis of building energy consumption. GSA will also add automatic flush vales and infrared sensors to more than 140 restroom fixtures at the facility. These low-flow devices will significantly reduce building water consumption and promote a healthy work environment.
The Whittaker Courthouse is in the midst of retro-commissioning and advanced metering studies to identify opportunities to reduce energy demand and operation and maintenance costs.
GSA staff at the Whittaker Courthouse is focused on energy conservation, and improving energy efficiency is a continuous process for the facility. Operating federal buildings in accordance with ENERGY STAR building specifications shows GSA's commitment to leadership in energy efficiency.
