Developed, owned, and operated by Memorial Hermann, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital is a six-story, more than 377,204-square-foot facility that serves the acute care needs of the Sugar Land community. Designed as the most "wired" technological hospital in the region, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land was also designed to be highly energy efficient. Its infrastructure and central plant include many high-efficiency features as demonstrated by its achievement of earning ENERGY STAR certification. In addition to earning the ENERGY STAR, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land received the Clean Air Award from the National Air Filtration Association in 2008.
Earning the ENERGY STAR for Memorial Hermann Sugar Land resulted largely from the teamwork associated with testing and tuning the building's central plant and HVAC systems; improving existing economizer programs related to building control systems; and training the Engineering Operations team on specific energy management goals, benchmarks, and initiatives. Innovative features, such as high-efficiency boilers, variable frequency drive (VFD) equipped chillers, cooling towers, and air-handling units, combined with state-of-the-art lighting control systems, will continue to complement staff training. These activities will help accrue financial and environmental benefits for the hospital's bottom line.
