Mary M. Bethune Elementary School opened in 1967 and underwent additions in 1988 and 2009. In 2009 the building mechanical system was overhauled and converted to water source heat pumps for the 52 classrooms, with outside air pretreated by energy recovery units and gas heat/air cooled roof top units for assembly and office areas. The school has a robust direct digital control building automation system by Automated Logic Corporation. The building sits on 15 acres adjacent to Ronald McNair Middle School.
